I would suggest you try looking for marriage books.
The one I found actually was in Salt Lake City at the Family Library and the name was something like Shelby County Marriages. I just pulled it off the shelf and started reading.It was a joy to find the information without really looking. I feel sure that there is one of the Family Library branches near you.
Then by reading the census for that area, I even was lucky enough to find my ggg grandparents.
If you hit the jackpot and find out anything major, please feel free to contact me. Like I said, these folks were private.
I have been told that the Bayne family from Maryland had some beautiful markers and that they were still standing and in great shape. They date back to the 1700's at least. They were major players in the sailing industry back then and actually sailed attacking the enemies of the country. But the descendants still say they were pirates. Knowing their personalities, I can believe it.
