The following information was found in a listing of the Orangeburg District Abstract of Deeds:

Samuel G. Battey (?)
Deed of Trust for all property real and personal, 100 acres, to J. L. Whitney
Executed March 13, 1820
Recorded March 18, 1820

Can anyone identify this Samuel G. Battey? This is the only surviving record of this transaction. All other land records and legal documents for Orangeburg County, South Carolina were burned in the Civil War.

There is a Jeremiah L. WHITNEY ennumerated on the 1820 Census of Orangeburg. Any information on this Samuel G. Battey and any possible BEATY( Various spellings)/WHITNEY connections, maybe originating in Washington County, Virginia, would be greatly appreciated.
