My ancester Jean Baptiste Beaudoin must have pronounced his surname as 'Boad Win'. I found some of his children were registered as 'Boadwin' and later some of his descendants were registered as 'Baudwin'. Other forms of spelling were also used. JB spelled their name 'Beaudoin' but if some one else wrote it then they spelled as they heard it. Does that make sense? All I know is it can make it hard to trace them.
