After 40 years of searching....literally scouring....birth records in France, I have finally found our paternal ancestor.....Jean Baudereau who according to his son Urbain's marriage record was married to Marie Chauveau, from Clermont, a village in Maine, France. It bears reminding that neither a birth record for Urbain, nor a marriage record for Jean and Marie were found in Clermont.
As it turns out, I am 100% sure that Urbain was born in St-Symphorien, Andard, Maine, the son of Jean Bottereau and Mathurine Chauveau. Thus, the surname was Bottereau, not Baudereau, nor Bodereau. As he was illiterate, the spelling of his surname (probably suggested by the parish priest) changed.
Also, while I do not have birth record, I do have a birth record for his sister Emerance Bottereau, born in 1615 to Jean Bottereau and Mathurine Chauveau.
Mystery solved!!!! We Beaudreaus are, in fact, Bottereaus!!!
