Hello Vernon, thanks for all you have done on the Sunday family. I found a passport on Ancestry.com for a Francis Soundes in 1810. Given the need to stay for 5 years before they could become citizens, I am wondering if this is indeed our Francis.
One thing bothering me, is that John was in Georgia prior to Francis, so did he come first? I did find a Francis Sunday on a tax list in Pennsylvania in 1812 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the only other place you really can find Soundes and Sunday's that early.
I agree that Sondag/Sontag which can also be Dutch and Belgian is probably the original surname. I know folks from Belgium that were french speaking, so wonder if the reason he is French in the naturalization intent was because no one knew where Belgium is. Just a thought.
