Captain Thomas Bebbington, of Victoria B.C.,and his wife had no children of their own. They adopted my 3 year old grandmother Georgina (nee Sinclair), in 1894-95. Captain Bebbington was a clippership captain on the China/India Australia run.
He retired to Victoria and worked as a pilot bringing ships down the Strait of Juan de Fuca to port. As a girl, my grandmother would often accompany him in the small pilot boat as the cook. Often they would have to wait around for weeks, in the port Renfrew area, for overdue vessels.
