I believe my ggggrandmother may have been a Beckmann (Beckman or Bechmann). In the 1980's, I interviewed 2 elderly cousins about my material grandmothers family. They were the ones who said my ggggrandmother was Elma, Alma, Emma Beckmann. They were not sure of how to spell her first or last name. They remembered meeting her when they were children. She married Dr. Arvid G. Polster DeCossy and had 3 daughters: Elizabeth b. Aug. 1874 (their mother), Anna b. Aug. 1871(my gggrandmother), and Alma b. about 1884. They said her sister lived with her and her husband. They all lived in Blackjack, Mo. (outside St. Louis) in a house which was originally supposed to be a hospital, but was never used as one. I have only found my grandfather in the 1880 census and in naturalization records. I have NOT been able to find my grandmother and her daughters. Elizabeth and Anna show up in the 1900 census, married and with families. Alma shows up in the 1920 census single, never to be seen again. It is thought she married and moved to Ill, no one knows for sure.
This week, I found Elizabeth's family in the 1900 census and found living with her a Elizebeth Meisse, identified as a mother-in-law. Could this have been the aunt that lived with her parents? I have since found a St. Louis, Mo marriage of Katharine E. Beckmann to Friedrich Meise on July 3, 1862. Does anyone know my family? They are my brick wall. I have a photo of the 2 Beckmann sisters with my grandpa DeCossy, that I'm willing to share. Thanks for any help. Judi
