It is my understanding that Bednar, Bidner, Beadner, and a few others all have the same origin to Eastern Europe, particularly Ukraine around Odessa, and then migrating to the Slavic states. That the surname comes from the russian word Bednyj meaning poor and miserable man. This from a Jewish book of surnames. The variations come from immigration.
