When my mother visited Southminster in Essex UK while on holiday from Australia she spoke to a Miss Beehag (who wouldn't be alive now) who mentioned a Gideon Beehag.
My mother lives in Adelaide South Australia and she thinks that she is the only Beehag living in that city. Her maiden name was Beehag.
Two brothers James and William Beehag migrated to Sydney Australia at the ages of 18 and 16 respectively in the early 1800's and became pioneers of Rockdale, a suburb of Sydney. They bought up acres of land there and were also given land grants.
William, my mother's great grandfather, had 2 sons. One was a solicitor and the other an ear nose and throat specialist who invented foreceps to take out tonsils as well as a type of snuff. He also worked at an infirmary in Edinburough Scotland.William also had a daughter who married the Head Sharang of Penang in Malaya.
Most of William's decendants in Australia have done well for themselves but my mother knows nothing of the James' side of the family.
One of my mother's relations composed a popular jingle for a radio comercial called "I like Aeroplane Jelly".It may not be heard anywhere other than Australia.
You may get some information on Gideon Beehag at the council chambers at Chelmsford UK.
