Dear Renate Your inquiry regarding Ernest Behm contains many details that make me believe Ernest Behm is my grandfather. Ernest Behm was my father’s father. My father Edward Henry Behm had three siblings, one older sister, one younger brother and another younger sister. The older sister was my aunt Rose. My father knew very little about his father’s family back in Germany. However he recalled seeing a family photograph (Ernest’s family) with many siblings and one had the name Heine written above it. My father told me Ernest left Germany alone at a young age (12 years old I believe) and first went to Texas. I think he had relatives there. He was a professional wrestler for a time. He somehow wound up in New York City where he married Mildred Adelson (Adleson?). He worked at the Central Park boat yard in New York City as a city employee. My father said he remembered his father Ernest writing letters back to his family in Germany. In 1938 when my father was 12, Earnest suddenly and unexpectedly died of “acute indigestion”, at least that’s what the city coroner concluded. This would certainly explain why contact with relatives in Germany suddenly ceased. We have few pictures of Ernest as an adult but nothing else. Please write back. I’m anxious to find out if this is the part of the family that we thought was “long lost” Sincerely Bradford D. Behm Notify Administrator about this message?
