Hi,
I'm having some trouble finding a William Bell who was born in Scotland c.1811 (possibly in Dumfries) and died some time after 1871 (most likely in Northumberland).
The information I have from Census records tells me that:
He was married to an Elizabeth born c.1816 in Scotland.
He had at least 9 children:
1. Jane c.1833 Scotland (Because of the birth date of Jane I get the feeling that Elizabeth might not be her mother).
2. William c.1839 Cumberland
3. Thomas c.1841 Cumberland
4. James c.1844 Cumberland
5. John c.1846 Cumberland
6. Andrew c.1849 Cumberland
7. George c.1850 Northumberland
8. Mary Ann c.1850 Northumberland
9. Irving c.1853 Northumberland
In the 1861 England census it says that he is a widower and a Jane Bell (recorded as 'mother' aged 77 born in Scotland) is living with him.
In the 1871 census he has remarried and his wife is recorded as Elizabeth born c.1813 Newburn, Northumberland and a man named Hugh Steplunoon is recorded aged 22 as a son (I'm guessing this would be Elizabeth's son from a previous marriage).
I'm looking for any information regarding who William's parents were and specifics of when he was born and where and also more information on his marriages to the 2 Elizabeths and also if his daughter Jane wasn't the first Elizabeth's daughter.
Any information would be much appreciated.
