Dear Brian,
Our Benfield family first appears in what was to becme Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA around 1723. We know that there was two brothers, John and Thomas, with John first listed as head of household in 1723 and Thomas in 1728. It appears that Thomas went (returned?) to England in 1733 where he married Mary Hill in Parish of Harefield in March of that year. In 1734, after secureing a land grant from Penn, he settled in District Township in what was a predominate German community. From this time right on through the migration to North Carolina, the family was absorbed into the german culture.
The brother John, remained in a community that was mostly English and we have not been able to develop much information about his descendants. We do know that he was close to the Boone family, the Millard family and lived adjacent to the Robeson family.

We do not know where they migrated from or whether they came to America as adults, children or were born here. As most settlers came in groups, it is likely that there is a connection to one of the neighboring families as listed above.

If you think you could provide clues to our origins, we would be most appreciative.
