Thanks for the message, Annatjie. I am familiar with that bit of information about John Benn as I have the book "Knysna, the Forgotten Port." But I would love to know what is written on John Benn's tombstone. I wish I could be sure of his parentage. Genealogists say you have to have three pieces of proof to confirm your facts.

Have you found out anything more about your great great grandfather William? Was he a brother of John Benn?

I still don't know where my great-grandfather Aylen Benn fits in. He was either son of the second John Benn or one of John's brothers.
