Kathy; I just checked my CD of Cyprien Tanguay which is the the listing of settlers after the Jette book. It covers the time period of late 1600 to late 1700. I did not find a Gabriel Laforest listed. Another reason that I believe your related to Acadian Benoits is that I have over 7000 names and descendants in my family tree program. I have 22 Laforest names that married into the Benoit family and their children. I was originally from Enosburg Falls, Vermont, which is about 8 miles from the Canadian border. I spent numerous hours in Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada genealogy society which was formed in 1968. I have been working with my distant cousin Marcel Benoit from Magog, P.Q., Canada and we have search many names. I do not recall any of my Benoits or relatives in the St. Francois-du-lac area. I believe the genealogy society in Sherbrooke would be of big help to you. Address:Societe de Genealogie des Cantons de l'Est, 275 Dufferin Street, Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada J1H 4M5.
