Jean Berard of Attakapas

Some histories of early Attakapas indicate that Jean-Baptiste Berard was a merchant in St. Louis (perhaps near Fort Kaskaskia) prior to becoming one of the early Attakapas landowners. I recently found some information indating that there were some Berards in Kaskaskia, including a Jean Berard. Does anyone have any documentation on Jean Berard of Attakapas being a Merchant in Kaskaskia (or St. Louis)?

The 1721 Census of New Orleans lists a Berard as surgeon major and also lists "Berard, the younger" with wife and child. I think both of these Berards may have been named Jean-Baptiste Berard. Does anyone know if Jean-Baptiste Berard of Attakapas is related to these early New Orleans Berards?

Where can I find a good biography of Jean Berard? (My wife is descended from him through his daughter Christine who married Agricole Fuselier.)
