I am a direct decendant of Weert and Anna Berens who came to America in 1867. From Ellis Island they went to Freeport, Illinois, then to Iowa and then to Southeastern South Dakota to homestead. The oldest child, Margaret D,. then seventeen years of age, had married and remained in Iowa. In the next seven years the familyu werre to lose four daughters all having died quite young. the rest of the family lived, worked and died in the area surrounding Lennox, South Dakota.

John Joseph Berens, Sr. b 1864;d 1910, was a son born to Weert and Anna. My grandfather,John Joseph Berens, Jr, was born April 15th 1902 at Lennox, South Dakota.

Decendants such as myself have come west from Montana, Oregon and California. There are many Berens decendants in Oregon.
