The Besnards were a Huguenot family in Cork, Ireland. Pierre Besnard was born in the Netherlands where his parents had fled from France in the late 1600's. He came to Cork in the early 1700's.
Julius Besnard was a sailcloth maker in Douglas near Cork.
The family name died out in Cork in the mid-nineteenth century as most of the younger men emigrated.
Several of the family were Sheriffs and Mayors of Cork.
