Helen Rosa BESWICK born circa 1920
Posted by: Marion Woolgar Date: December 08, 2001 at 23:49:53
  of 184

My Great Uncle was Gilbert Povey WAKELING. He was born in Brixton,Surrey on 24 DEC 1892 and he died a bachelor in 1953. It was always rumoured in the family that "Gil" was the black sheep of the family and he had a career in the Royal Navy which took him to a number of foreign ports. Following his death, a photograph of a toddler was found carefully put away amongst his belongings and inscribed under the portrait are the words "Helen Rosa Beswick August 20th 1923". The photograph was taken by "W. Foxall, Victoria BC". The photograph shows a child of about 2 or 3 years of age, so my guess is that she would have been born about 1920. This photograph has only very recently come into my possession.

My suspicion is that the child is Gil's daughter.

Can you help me to trace the descendants of Helen Rosa BESWICK, please? I have already been in touch with the records office in Victoria BC, hoping to purchase a copy of the child's birth certificate, but they operate a 100 year privacy rule and their indexes are not available to researchers. Any assistance or suggestions for further research would be much appreciated.
