Jorge, There is likely some connection. I first got interested in the Betancourts via the tombstone I found. Alonzo lived in an area of Philadelphia where many generations of my family have lived. I look for things on Alonzo from time to time. He taught Spanish in several schools here in Philadelphia in the early to mid 1800s.Also look on the boards for more Betancourt items. I also did a look up here in Philly for Steve Barranco (you'll see him on these boards) for a Benjamin Guerra who committed suicide or was murdered here in the Hotal Lafayette here in Philadelphia in January 1900. The hotel no longer exists. That got me going. There are other persons on these boards who are much more knowlegeable about the Betancourt line. I still get a little confused with them. I'm certain that they are all connected and come from the few Betancourts that came to Cuba. I also recommend reading the book Mistress of Manifest Destiny: A Biography of Jane McManus Storm Cazneau 1807-1878 by Linda Hudson for historical background on Mexican/Caribbean/US. Also "Cuban Confederate Colonel: The Life of Ambrosio Jose Gonzales" by Antonio Rafael de la Cova. Contact some of the others on these boards also cause some really seem to know alot more than I do. Here in the US, I never really was taught much about Spanish-Cuba-US history - never cared about my deficiency until I started working on Alonzo Betancourt. I think he was very glad to have come to Philadelphia. I don't know where he met Jane McCormick and why they married in Cuba and not here in Philadelphia. Good luck on your quest for the Betancourt line. I even have Alonzo's Will and several deeds to properties he bought in Philadelphia. It would be very interesting to see where he originated.
