Thank you Sara, for all your wonderful information.
It is very interesting to re-check on Alonso`s wife name. The Conde de Jaruco book reads Jane Cornick but you report McCormick .

And I see that his daughter America has a second name: Josefa. I haven`t seen any marriage date. It looks like she never married.

Alonso Betancourt has only one brother : Gaspar Alonso and 6 sisters.

Gaspar died on august 1st. 1867, probably he was able to oversees the sale of Alonso`s properties. Puerto Principe was a city and Nuevitas was another one.
And back then, they had slaves. Can it be that the "brown man" Jose Maria was one of them?

I wonder if he stayed in Cuba or was living with them here in Philly, since Alonso`s father was who bequest those $50.00 annually.

That detail about the properties also explains why America, the oldest daughter was born in Philly and Isabel, the second one, was born in Cuba. Probably Alonso traveled with his family from Philly to P. Principe more than once since he had those properties in Cuba.

His brother-in-law Benjamin Sanchez-Pereira y de la Pera was married to his sister Luisa and later on after becoming a widower, he married Luisa`s sister : Mariana.

Benjamin was also Alcalde Ordinario of the city of Puerto Principe .

Francisco Jose Betancourt y Gutierrez was Alonso`s father.

All of those Betancourt formed the 6th Betancourt branch.

Two of Alonso`s sisters married a very wealthy husband . One of them , Catalina, married the First Marques de St. Lucia in 1822 , Jose Agustin Cisneros y Quesada and when she died he married his sister-in-law Angela (in 1826 )

It happened with Benjamin also

And Alonso`s brother Gaspar Alonso Betancort y Betancourt and his descendants formed a very important family in the political history of Cuba.

One of his daughters married the Second Marques de Sta. Lucia , Salvador Cisneros Betancourt . Few times Alcalde and later on, became President of Cuba in Arms, when the 10 Years war.
The other daughters married important cuban patriots too.

One of the sons was Pedro Betancourt y Recio , Tte. Coronel in the Cuban Army, at the same War ( circa 1868 ).

Gaspar Betancourt y Aguero also Comandante of the Cuban Army and later was Consul in Pto. Rico.

The relationship with me? Very far......because, Alonso Betancourt`s GGGfather was my GGGFather`s Brother!

There is a lot of cousins getting married on my mother side .... they were Betancourt-Betancourt more than once.

Thanks, Sara.
