There is a connection with the Jacob Bethany of the Carolinas and the bethanys of southern Mississippi. The Jacob Bethany I am referring to owned land in Edgecombe County in 1756, moved to South Carolina about 1775, was listed in the 1790 census in the Camden District, Sc, moved to Spanish West Florida about 1791-1792. HIs wife was named Helekia Dortch, and they had children, including a son Matthew Bethany who married mary Jelks in 1810. Some of these Bethany descendants moved to counties in southern Mississippi.
