Seeking ancestors and descendants of Andrew C. Betzer, born 26 Dec 1822 in Union County, Pennsylvania; married 27 Apr 1847 in Medina County, Ohio to Margaret Fulton (1827-1896, dau. of Abel & Hannah (Shroger?) Fulton).

Ezra, born c. 1848 in Ohio
William, born 1850 in Ohio
John, born c. 1852 in Ohio
Wesley, born c. 1854 in Ohio
Amanda, born c. 1856 in Ohio (married name Lister)
Louisa, born c. 1858 in Ohio (married name Rickard)
Muria, born c. 1860 in Michigan (married name Dunbar)
Hattie, born c. 1862 in Michigan (married name Towers)
George, born c. 1865 in Michigan
Lucy, born 1868 in Michigan (married name Fuller)
Lora, born 1870 in Michigan (married name Wirick)
Ervin, born c. 1875 in Michigan

Found in the federal census at these locations:

1850 - Ohio, Ashland County, Sullivan Township

1860, 1870, 1880 - Michigan, Hillsdale County, Amboy Township

Notes: In the 1850 census, Andrew is living next to Adam Betzer (age 21) and Matilda (age 20). Adam's birthplace is also given as Pennsylvania.

The surname is very hard to read in the 1870 census - looks like 'Boyer'.

In the 1880 census, Andrew C. appears as 'William Betser'; likewise the certified copy of his death certificate I received gives his name as 'William'.

By some records Andrew C. could be born as early as 1819, but the 1822 date seems better supported.

It has been theorized that the surname was originally 'Colbetser' or something similar - I have not yet encountered evidence of Andrew C. using anything other than 'Betzer' or 'Betser', however.
