I have only just come across genforum and hope that Alessandra Whitehouse - see message 169 - or someone else can make a connection for me. Henry Bickerton, my ggg-grandfather, was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs, and christened 12 Nov 1815. I have not seen the Parish Record of this christening but the IGI names only the mother, Jane Bickerton. Henry was brought up in Wellington, Shropshire, by William and Sarah Bickerton. I am almost certain that they were his grandparents. [William died in Wellington in 1844 aged 84 so should have been born around 1760]. William was not born in Wellington and William and Sarah were not married there, but children of the pair were christened in Wellington as follows: Mary 1790; Frances 1793; Jane 1795; Ann 1799; William 1804 I hypothesise that their daughter Jane was the [unmarried] mother of Henry and that she went quietly to Newcastle-under-Lyme to be looked after by some part of William's [or Sarah's] family. Can anyone help me to resolve this one? Michael Canning Notify Administrator about this message?
