Lanny,
Glad tosee you posting again on the Forum. I know that you have done a lot of research on the Meshach line, ancestors and descendants.
The name John must have been a favorite name of the eary Biddy families because there seems to have been many.
From the records, we know of John the Revolutionary war veteran who was the son of Thomas who served on the administration of both Thomas' and Edwards'estates. Before him, there were at least three other John Biddys of record from Virginia and Maryland, supposedly the ancestors of Thomas & Edward dating back into the 1600s, but we have no records for proof of the direct connection.
Then later in 1830, as you state, John N. Biddy the brother of Meshach was in Georgia and two others were in TN and one in AL. Later Biddy generations saw other Johns icluding Rev. John H. Biddy of Pickens and Cherokee County, GA who we both know the history of. The Indian affidavits of 1909 had four John Biddy applications to the Guion Miller Roll, one of which was our John H.
I had thought the "John" naming tradition had just about run out but I recently discovered another Jonathon (called Jon) living in England where his father Randle Biddy married an English lady and settled after a career in the U. S. Air Force. Randle was my age and a second or third cousin raised in the 1940s & 1950s in the same North Georgia area that I grew up in.
Do you have any idea how the Jonathon of the 1849 Court Martial fits into the Biddy line and do you know what happened to him after he served his hard labor for taking part in the mutiny?
