It took me eight years to see this post of yours. My family has told me also that my great-grandfather Frank X. Bier traveled in 1880 from Hamburg, Germany to NYC.GGD Frank played the violin and was a US census worker in 1900 and 1910.
No one said if he was alone or with a family member, but anyway he stayed in New Jersey and raised a family. When his first wife died around 1913, he sent all four of his other kids (except my grandfather) back to Germany.I was told that two were killed in Germany during WWII.No idea were in Germany.
My grandfather's name was Joseph Otto Bier, Sr. (born in NJ in 12/1890) and my dad was Joseph Otto Bier, Jr. (5/25).Our family lived in Brooklyn NY from 1900 until the 1930s.Moved to Hudson, NY in the mid '30s.My dad moved back to Long Island after WWII and stayed in Jamaica, Queens, NY in the '50-60s, then lived in Bethpage, Nassau County, NY from 1964 until his death in 2000.
