Thanks, Julia. Do you have any further information on Jane? Every source I have encountered says that Jane Walls Payne, wife of John Carroll Payne, was the child of Susie Bigby and Henry Walls. But Jane was born in 1796 (approximately) and married in 1811. Their first child I have a birthdate for, John Floyd Payne, was born in 1817.
I wonder if Jane Walls Payne was more likely a sister of Henry Walls than a daughter? But that would just totally confuse all the records since then, including the Monroe County records that describe the family as Cherokee. I don't even know where to begin looking for answers to this question.
