That oral history has some credibility,the Bills were connected to the 'Kings Printers' through John Bill you can read the timeline of it here.

They were also stewards/agents for the Earls of Shrewsbury.
I think the danish connection may be assumed from connections to Horsfalls? who are in folklore said to descend from the legendary Danes Horsa and Hengist.
