When you say John Billington's father was listed with the last name of Billington(Bullington) are you speaking of the the John, the father of the John Billington who came over on the Mayflower? My famil research is the Bullington name, but I have so many that tell me we are connected to the Billington line because the spelling changed. But I have not found a connection.
