Many thanks for your followup on my "problem."
You hit the nail right on the head with the fact that there were two Seth Billington's: 1) b. 27FEB1785, Wayne, ME, son of Nathaniel and Abigail Handy; and 2) b. 26SEP1784, Wayne, ME, son of Isaac and Rebeckah West. The Wayne VRs left a lot to be desired. I had an opportunity to spend a few days in the Wayne area (we stayed in Augusta) this past summer and were able to clear up a lot of the mystery.
Seth #1 married Mary (Polly) Norris, 18MAR1804 in Wayne. Their second daughter, Adeline, b. 04OCT1805, Wayne, married my maternal g-g-grandfather, Solomon Killam Foster, at Byron, ME, on 24DEC1829. They eventually settled in Weld, ME. Confirmation of this union has been documented in Frederick Clifton Pierce's "Foster Genealogy", 1899, pp 289 and 376, item 1597. Their son, Ezekial Porter Foster, b. 24APR1839, Weld, married Rebecca Soule Buker at Weld on 29MAY1860. Their son, Nathan Grant Foster, b. 31MAR1865, Weld, married Helen May (Daley) Ellis at Rumford, ME, on 23NOV1913. Nathan was my grandfather.
(By way of possible confirmation, Ezekiel Porter Foster had an older bother, Nathan Norris Foster, b. 12NOV1835, Weld, ME, whose name may provide a clue to Norris ancestry.)
Seth #2 married Mary (Polly) Knowlton, 18JUL1808, at Northwood, Rockingham, NH. They had two daughters, Ruth Page and Aish Page (not Aseth) both b. 17AUG1809. Aish may have died young. Ruth Page Billington married Ephraim Maxim at Wayne, 1829. Ruth's mother, Mary (Polly) Knowlton, b. 15SEP1784 at Northwood, was the daughter of Jonathan Knowlton (b. 16JUN1739 at Kensington, Rockingham, NH) and Ruth Page (b. 11MAY1745 at Hampton, Rockingham, NH).
At some point in time, Seth #2 returned to Wayne. The question is when Seth #1 left Wayne for parts northwest with his children. I do not believe that Seth #1 died at Wayne. There are Billington tombstones in Weld (however, no Seth), as well as Foster and Norris.
