Hi Gary. Thanks for the reply. My interest in the Billington family is due to Pearl's marriage to a man by the name of COsby or CRosby. In my COsby tree (this name has also been spelled CRosby in historical documents and in my family's line) there is a family bible that says thatFrank COsby, (born ca 1882 in AL) married a lady named Pearl. The bible provides only her first name and no surname; but it does say that they had 2 children. These children were shown as Thomas J. Cosby, and Marie Cosby.
After looking at many family trees online, I decide that Pearl Billington and her family, plus her 2 children, fit the bill. Then after finding that Frank COsby had died in Bakersfield, Kern Co, CA in 1949, I started looking for Pearl and the children there. That's when I found Pearl and Thomas J Cosby buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in CA. So far, I haven't been able to find out where Frank or Marie are buried. I would guess California, as well.
As you can see, there hasn't been any documented proof found yet that identifies Pearl Billington and Frank as husband and wife, but I'm hoping to find something if I can get some help from family members who are still living.
Here are the things that I need to find next in order to help me with my continuing search:
1. Since most seem to think that Pearl's husband was named Thomas, I would like to find out what his complete legal name would be. Is "FRANK" any part of his name? I also need to find out if any part of my Frank's legal name was Thomas.
2. Where did Pearl marry her husband?
3. Is Marie still alive? Who did she marry and where? Did
she have children?
4. Is there any family connection to AL? My Cosby/Crosby
line came from Jackson, Jefferson, Blount & St Clair
counties of Alabama. Frank was born there.
I've never been able to find "Frank" on any census records after 1910. That may be because I don't know his complete legal name and maybe he wasn't listed only as Frank. I do know that Frank was married the first time, ca 1906, to a lady named Eula Brock and they are on the 1910 Indianola, Pittsburg Co Oklahoma census, along with her children.... Roy, Troy and Floy. She was a widow lady and had lived earlier in Yell County Arkansas (in 1900) with her first husband and children..... named Roy, Floy and Troy. So, I think this must be the same lady. In 1900, Frank was still single and living with his father in Jackson Co AL. In 1900, Annie Pearl was still at home with her parents in Belcher Town, Montague Co, TX. In 1910 she was still at home with her parents in Jackson Co Oklahoma. But, I can not find Frank or Pearl anywhere in 1920. This census record is the one that I need to see in order to know how her husband's name is listed and to see where they were living then. No matter how hard I look, I just can't find them in 1920. However, I have found a 1920 census record that COULD be them but the name of the husband is T. H. CoZby. This census shows a T.H. Cozby and Pearl Cozby living in Oklahoma City, Ward 4, Oklahoma. There are no children, which makes sense if this is really Pearl, since Thomas & Marie were born ca 1923 and 1924. Then, finally, I found Pearl and her 2 children in 1930 living with John & Sallie, along with brother, Dan L. They were in Duke, Jackson Co OK. There is no husband shown for Pearl on this census. Had they divorced? Was he just out of town? Had he already gone on to California? So many questions!
I don't know when the 1940 census will be available but I think maybe I will learn much more when it comes out. Hopefully, I will find them in Kern Co CA.
So, that's where I'm at right now and I don't know where ele to go. I just really need to find someone who is a direct descendent, preferbly, children of Thomas J or Marie. Do you have any suggestions? What is your thoughts on whether my "Frank" is really the husband of Pearl? I sure hope I haven't been looking for the wrong Pearl all of this time!
