There are two problems with Anthony Binford as the progenitor of this family. There is no proof in the way of a marriage license or birth certificates to document this. Even the transcriptions of the Will of Anthony Jones seem to have difficulty with the spelling of the last name. In the original land grant (available on line from the Library of Virginia) it is clearly spelled with an "e" while the "James Binford" name is clearly spelled with an"i". Finally the land grant to Anthony escheated to the crown for lack of develop;ment and was regranted to Henry Butt on 4 October l675 per patent book 6, page 564. This is also available on line from the Library of Virginia.
