Binnings in Ireland

My name is Sean Binning (d.o.b 13/9/58, Wokingham, England). My father is Kenneth James Binning (b 1930s, Hertford, England)and his father was James Binning (b. approx 1900 probably in Ireland). Family tradition holds that James turned up as an orphan on the London docks in the early years of the last century and was either adopted by, or apprenticed to, a tailor. He was supposed to have come from Ireland. Binning is a Scottish name, but of course a lot of Scots emigrated to Ireland in the seventeenth century. James is a family name. Can anyone shed any light on this?
