There are many branches of Birchalls in the Rainford and Prescot area. Some were farmers and others watchmakers. I have a Sarah, but no Alice. Much of what I discovered was from www.genuki.org.uk the Lancashire and then surname interest. There is a list of the many researchers of this name. All responded very kindly to me and I discovered a cousin many times removed.
