My name is Catherine Beaumont, formerly Birkett. I was browsing the Internet and came across these pages. My sister Geraldine and I have been trying to gather information on our fathers family who came from South Shields. We have only with any certainty, gone as far back as 1875 to our Grandfather Robert Birkett who was born at Murton Colliery. His father was also called Robert and he was married to Elizabeth Quinn. We believe that my Grandfathers father was born about 1839 and died in 1901 at Bolden Colliery? This has yet to be confirmed as we haven't been able to verify it.

My Grandmother was Mary Ann Duffy who married my Grandfather on 20 April 1904. She was born in South Shields in 1877.

I believe that they originally came over from Ireland and settled in Scotland before moving to South Shields.

I hope to I can help and look forward to hearing from any of the 'clan'
