You know Donna...I was born in Saskatoon but my mothers family is from just north of PA. And I remember when I was a teenager that down town PA..there was a floral shop called Birketts. Are you related to those Birketts. If so, Kens Aunti May who is still alive, born 1914, said that she didn't think that those Birketts are related to hers. BUT that maybe as far as Aunts Uncles and Cousins go for her..maybe...just maybe.....your Birketts are from a couple of generations behind her.
I looked at my site and I dont' have any Birketts born in 1888 but I do have a couple (THREE) in 1880, including my husbands Charles.
The fellow, Joseph in Blaine Lake has been gone for about 10 years now. His wife Aunti Jean still lives there and is doing well. Of all the kids that Charles had, only May is still alive. Mind you by the time that Ken and I got together, 30 years ago, half were gone..and since then we have lost the rest.
There was a 'problem' about what to do with the farm when Charles and Isabella died..and as the story goes, 3 of the kids wanted to give their portion to Uncle Joe so he could keep the farm..and the other three needed their inheritance. Some how...the 'for farm' and the 'not for farm' ended up not talking to each other. So Ken was raised knowing that he had an uncle living not too far from us. But he didn't know where. His father was in Canada Post, and when Ken was going to university, he got a summer job at Canada Post..and one day when he delivered mail to a house, he looked at the fellow and thought that he looked like Uncle Joe..it was then that Ken looked at the name on the mail and realized that it was his Mother's brother, Uncle Charles. This brother lived on the same street as us..less than a mile from my house...and we never knew he exsisted for years. As all family 'problems' go, they got together for his funeral!! even though these are tragic things...they sure make family history interesting!
Looking forward to your email (I think that we wrote to each other a couple of years ago!!)
