Robert Birkett/Cumberland & name change?

Hi,

I am tracing Robert Burkell, born 1789 in England. He married Agnes HOWSON of Dent, West Riding, Yorkshire about 1820 and they emigrated to Ontario Canada. He was a wagon and carriage maker. He might have been married before in Cumberland.

Eveything we have come across points makes us think he was Robert BIRKETT, born 1789 to Robert and Sarah Birkett of Saint Bees, Cumberland.

Is anyone researching this branch?
Can anyone "rule out" this Robert?
Has anyone come across such a name change?
or have a BIRKETT line that went missing?
