I cannot help much, but from the 1881 census, it would appear that James had a younger brother called Robert(possibly cousin) living within a few doors of him.
I have also been in touch with a Louise, who is interested in Robert specifically. Would suggest that you two get together. Is your email address lausten@handbag.com? If so, I will let louise know of your common interest.
I have the 1881 census details for both, if you are interested (as has Louise. i sent them earlier today). If you get any further back with this, I would love to know, as I may eventually be able to add it to my own tree.
