Funny we should have the same interest in this fellow. Yes, he was hanged for wanting to do the Captain in with his long gun. But it ended up being his undoing. I have a read a couple versions of Mutiny On The Bounty, but the one I have is written by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. I believe Burkett was described a little differently in this version.
My family is from Dover, UK and no doubt are some relation to this poor chap who opted to do something he should not have.
