BISCHOF - Herbert J. Sr., 79, of Orchard Road, Schellsburg, died Wednesday at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Johnstown, son of the late Stephen and Rose Marie (Munzer) Bischof. On April 19, 1954, he married Donna Yoder and she survives along with four sons: David, married to former Janice Johnson of Johnstown; Herbert Jr. of Schellsburg; Scott, married to former Lisa Miller of Schellsburg; Craig, married to former Karen Elliott of Bedford; 10 grandchildren; five sisters, Rita Clark, Rose Mary Bischof, Bertha Mayer and Betty Lorditch, all of Johnstown; Janet, wife of Gerald Clennon of Minooka, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen Jr., husband of the former Betty O'Donald of Camp Hill. Mr. Bischof was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford; Bedford American Legion, Post 113; Bedford Elks, Lodge 1707; Knights of Columbus; and Bedford VFW, Post 7527. He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Johnstown and St. Vincent College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Stockholm. He was a retired C.A.R.T. driver for the Area Agency on Aging. Prior to that he had been manager at the Bedford Elks Club; owned the Graystone Hotel and ran Bischof Markets in Johnstown. Funeral Mass, Saturday, 10 a.m. from St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Raymond G. Crosser officiating. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 8:30 with the Rev. Frank Schuette.
