Hi Roy, In the 1880 US Census, Bear Creek Precinct, Gallatin Co, Illinois, Family #215
John "T" Blackard age 48 born Illinois
Wife Sarah age 29 born Indiana
Son Grant age 16 born Illinois
Son Robert age 15 born Illinois
Daughter Maggie age 9 born Illinois
Daughter Lou age 3 born Illinois
Step-son Calvin Hendrick age 12 born Indiana
Step son Henry Hendrick age 10 born Illinois
Step-daughter Ellana Hendrick age 5 b IL

John "T" Blackard married for the 2nd time to Mrs. Sarah Hendrix in Gallatin Co., March 31,1880. It was at least her 2nd marriage also. Though the spelling is different from the census and Marriage Index I do think the 2 Sarahs are the same.

1880 US Census Bear Creek Precinct, Gallatin Co., Illinois Family # 170
John "L" Blackard age 45 born Illinois
Wife Eliza age 36 born Ohio
(This would be wife #3 - Eliza Catherine "Kate" Litchfield who was 1st married to James Sanders, and 2nd married to John Kinsall)
Son James W. age 20 born Illinois
Daughter Lizzie age 14 born Illinois
Son John R. age 9 born Illinois
Daughter Jennie B. age 6 born Illinois
Daughter Allie age 2 born Illinois
William L. age 2/12 born Illinois
Step-daughter Annie Sanders age 13 born IL
Step-Daughter Effa Kinsall age 8 born IL

I DID NOT COPY THESE FROM AN INDEX - THEY WERE COPIED FROM A MICROFILN OF THE ORIGINALS
I left the spelling as it looked to me.

I do envy you - I wish I could have talked to the Blackards and Kinsalls in and around Omaha in the 1960's. The stories must have been great. I did enjoy the story you posted about the "early" Blackards.

Just for the record:-
1870 US Census Cottonwood PO, Gallatin Co,IL
Dwelling #144 Family #144 Blackard Family
John "T" age 35 born Illinois
Artamecia age 34 born Illinois
Ulysess G. age 7 born Illinois
Bobbie J. age 6 born Illinois
Maggie age 6/12 born Illinois

John "T" Blackard was also in the Civil War - Co D, 29th Illinois Inf.

As for the rest, the Lay/Ley name and the Nevitt/Langford name, I would be glad to exchange information privately since that really is not directly about Blackards. Kes
