The early information is very fragmented and sketchy. My sources indicate that there are no Blackards living in the UK today (as of 1999) or else they did not participate in the census or register to vote. There seemed to have been many Blackard immigration events however everyone that I've contacted seems to be from the same family line (i.e. Charles or William).

Here's a few details that we do now know.

1560 First Blackard birth recorded in England - John Blackard son of John Blackard.

Susan [Blackwood] arrived in Virginia in 1622 from the Port of London on the Abigail.

Tym [Blackett] arrived in New England in 1635 from London, England.

John [Blachard] arrived in Virginia in 1650 from England.

1668 Elizabeth Blackard transported from Belfast, Ireland. to Annapolis, Maryland.

Jack [Blackguard] arrived in America in 1698 from Middlesex England.

VA family stories say our Blackard family is thought to have crossed from Ireland to Glasglow, Scotland where they were woodworkers around 1720 before coming to America. Presumably, they were originally English protestant colonists who were transported to northern Ireland.

VA family stories say 7 Blackards left England for Pennsylvania but only 4 could be located after the crossing: Willoughby (I), Aaron, Thomas and William.

Prisoner [Black???] arrived in MD on 13 October 1722 from Newgate (Prison), London, England.

John [Blankhart] and Johann Ernst Blankart (German?) arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 10th, 1753 aboard the Ship Beulah.

Charles Blackard was recorded in Edgecombe County, NC in 1755. There is no record of when and where he arrived.

1758 Willoughby Blackard born in Granville (later named Bute) County, NC. [adjacent to Edgecombe]

Andrew [Blackart] was first recorded in Pennsylvania in 1759.

The birth of Nancy [Blockhard] was recorded in Pennsylvania in 1760.

Miss Tobiah [Blackett] arrivied in NC on April 1774 from London, England.

1790 First US Census included William Blackard (NC), Willibee Blackheart (NC)[Willoughby Blackard], Andrew Blackart (PA) and Andrew Blockheart (PA).

1800 US Census records Charles Blackard and Willyoube Blackart in NC, Andrew Blackheart in PA.

1810 US Census records Charles and Eli Blackard in KY, William Blackard in NC.

1820 US Census records William Blackard in TN

1848 Last record of a Blackard born in England. Elizabeth BLACKARD born in Brompton, KENT, England.

12 Nov 1851 Ann Blackard immigrated from Belfast, Ireland to New York.

24 May 1867 John BLACKARD born in Tartaraghan, Armagh, Ireland. Last recorded Blackard birth in Ireland.

Three Blackard families (John Blackard, Joseph Blackard, William Blackard) arrived from Ireland in about 1873 and settled in Connecticut.

1881 only 2 Blackards recorded in the UK census.

1999 No BLACKARDs found on the UK 1999 Electoral Register.
