It appears that there were two Charles Blackard's in colonial times - a father and son. These two men would be the father and elder brother of Willoughby Blackard, respectively.
I am now investigating whether a J. Blocker recorded in Edgecombe County, NC in 1748 may have been a James or John Blackard and the father of Charles Blackard. The perpetual mis-spelling of Blackard in these early records is making this a difficult task.
