Elsie Blackard Clonce, 102, of Weber City, VA, died Friday, February 5, 2010, at her home. Born in Hiltons, VA, on February 4, 1908, she was a lifelong resident of Scott Co VA. She was a founding charter member of Holston View United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School to an untold number of children. A practicing Christian, she lived the exemplary life by helping her family and neighbors in whatever way she could. She was a proficient cook, seamstress, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amberse Clonce, Sr.; son, A. J. Clonce, Jr.; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, Robert David Clonce and his wife Lola of Tacoma, WA; daughter-in-law, Marlys Clonce, of Kingsport, TN; five grandchildren, Richard Clonce, Eric Clonce, Constance Loosemore, John Clonce, and Sam Clonce; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, February 10, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN. Services will be conducted on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Holston View United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kenneth Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery, 171 US Highway 23 S Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Holston View United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2278, Weber City, VA 24290.
