John McMurtry Jr had two wives, Sarah Blackard being #2. Name of wife #1 unknown. Sarah was mother of daughter Elizabeth Jane McMurtry, son William L. McMurtry (who served in Civil War and died in Bastrop, LA in 1864), and another daughter I think Mary (married Norman?) The older children were from John's first marriage. Elizabeth Jane McMurtry married a Geers. John McMurtry Jr. died in White Co, Il before 1860 and maybe before 1850. Sally Blackard went to live in Bastrop with William L and wife Hellen A J Davis (step daughter of his step-brother) in Bastrop. William L lived in St. Clair Co., IL until 1859/1860. William L died around 1864 and family moved to Ark. to live with James McMurtry (the doctor/minister). This stuff I know from the family Bible and a couple letters I have. William L's son Sylvester died in Texas - I have his picture. Also Elizabeth Jane McMurtry's picture. I am descended from Elizabeth Jane McMurtry.
There are two different marriage dates in various sources for John Jr and Sarah which is confusing.
