There is a series of 3 books written by Crawford B. Thayer that are Eye-Witness accounts by participants in the Black Hawk War. These books were written in the early 1980's and are Hunting a Shadow: The Search for Black Hawk, The Battle of Wisconsin Heights, and Massacre at Bad Axe. I am living in the area where this battle took place which was Northern Illinois and Southwestern Wisconsin. My GG-grandfather and G-grandfather participated in the war. It took place in 1832.
