Samuel Brown in Black Hawk War

According to a history book about Mercer County, MO..my GGGGrandfather fought in the Black Hawk War. His name was Samuel Brown. His parents were married in TN where he was born. After the war he and members of his family moved to Ray County MO where his marraige record to Catherine Hiley is found in 1834. They eventually moved to Mercer county, where he and his brother Thomas started the first mill in Mercer County. Is there anyway to learn more about this part of his life? Was he in the military before the war? There has been mention of a sister of his, Priscilla Brown where she is described as a "red-haired woman from TN. Her brother was General Samuel Brown." Are there any records that can be researched? Any help would be deeply appreciated. Wanda Spegal
