Darlene, William Lawhorn was a participant in the Apple River Fort fight on June 24, 1832. I believe his wife was present as well. Local lead diggers and farmers constructed Apple River Fort to protect the Apple River lead mining settlements and surrounding population. Eventually, a small militia company commanded by Captain Clack Stone garrisoned the fort, although a good portion of this company was absent when Black Hawk's war-party struck. I take it you have had an oppotunity to check out this website, which covers the Lawhorn family? http://www.library.eku.edu/direct/Couture/lawhorn1.htm Regards, Bob Braun Notify Administrator about this message?
