Blackmore Site Update

Hello! It's time for an update on the latest changes at Blackmore Site.

http://www.geocities.com/blackmoresite/

1. NEW MENU

The first change you will note about the site is the menu. I have removed the frames and replaced them with a javascript menu. The menu is consistent between pages, allows for more text display on each page, and there are not as many issues with the Geocities advertisments. If you are having trouble with the javascript menu please send me an e-mail. (blackmoresite@yahoo.com)

2. NEW ADDITIONS TO THE DATABASE PAGE

* June 2000 update to the "Blackmore Families of Ireland" by Dr. Joseph Druse. When I contacted Dr. Druse about the origional 1968 work he took to updating it with the latest information he received during the prior 32 years. Now you can find the full text of both these surveys on Blackmore Site. The information includes families that have migrated into the U.S.

* I have also added links to a few other places to consider in your internet searches:
- My Cinnamon Toast Genealogy -- Well organized Blackmore page.
- The Blackmore Vale -- information on this local in Devon, England.
- The Newspaper Archive -- Many hits for Blackmore in several newspapers.
- Blackmore: History of Toronto ... -- History of a family that migrated to Canada.

* And the LDS records noted below can be found on the database page.

3. LDS DATA EXTRACTS

I contacted the LDS Family History Library through their web site and received permission to extract records containing the surname Blackmore and display them on the web page. The two products I had at the time were: The 1881 U.K Census on CDs and the LDS vital statistics CDs.

On the database page you can find the records from the LDS vital statistics CDs. I have now purchased version two of this product. I now need to (1) request permission to reproduce the records from version two, and (2) extract the records and update the data on the web page.

I also need to extract the records from the 1881 census. It is complicated as the program only allows 100 records to be extracted at a time.

4. BLACKMORE D.N.A. STUDY

I've been reading a little bit about DNA testing for genealogy and I'm curious to find out if enough people are interested in a Blackmore study. I have a survey available through the main page. Please take a look, more information is available on the survey page, as well as links to articles on the subject.

5. FINDING BLACKMORE ON THE INTERNET

* I have tried in the past to provide links to other personal family tree sites that mention the name Blackmore. It is difficult to maintain and find new pages for such a links page. I have now come up with a new solution. On the "web links" page there is a form which will narrow down results to Blackmore genealogy pages. Use the search box to find related items within the search results. For example: if your Blackmore married an Adams enter "Adams" in the search box and it will search for both Blackmore and Adams.

* I will endeavor to add another search engine to this page some time in the near future.

Please let me know if there are any improvements you would like to see.
