Hi, Greg: I do think we can make a connection. Charles Blackmore was born May 12, 1786, in Beaver County, Pa. He married Rebeccah Ferrell about 1805. Her mother was Eleanor Swearingen, so there is a start. Charles and Rebeccah moved to Fayette County before 1820. They had a large family, the first son being named Nathaniel. Nathaniel married twice, first to Nancy Boggs, on February 12, 1827. They had Nancy, Austin, Joseph, Charles and Emily. Nathaniel married again, one Mary Cripps. and had four more children. Let me call your attention to Joseph, the child of Nathaniel and his first wife, Nancy Boggs. Nancy died in July, of 1846, so Joseph was born before that time, probably about 1835. According to the History of Fayette County, (a CD from FTM numbered 450) he was enlisted in the 60th OVL and died in a hospital in Baltimore - Civil War.
This would make him the age of the J.B. Blackmore you are searching for. I have no information about his family.

I checked the Census for Fayette County in 1870 and found the following in Jefferson Twp:

Bleckemord, Eliza, age 40, keeping house (an astonishing spelling!)
Denis C., age 13, at school
Elizabeth, age 12
Joseph, age 10
Almira /?/, age 9

Then I checked the 1880 Census and found two entries of interest.

In Green Twp:
Blackmore, D.C., age 23, farmer
E.J., age 16, wife, keeping house.
O.L., age 1/12, b.April, son.

and in Concord Twp:

McDaniel, George, age 76, farming
McDaniel, E.J., age 50, wife
Blackmore,S.A., step-daughter, age 22
Blackmore, Estey, step son, age 20, a grocer.

The names don't all fit, but I'm thinking perhaps the J.B. you are looking for was Joseph, the son of Nathaniel, and that when he died in the Baltimore Hospital that his wife remarried (George McDaniel was 25 years older than she was). Comments?
