Request a copy of your grandfather's Social Security application from the Social Security Administration -- this will list his legal name, birth date, birth place, and, most importantly, his parents' names. From there you can search for the family in census records (start with the most recent one available, 1920, and work backwards). When you find out your grandfather's parents' names, please post them to this message board, so that others who might have info on them can connect with you.
